(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) The Ministry of Planning announced on Sunday, the start of preparations for the census of the population in all of Iraq, scheduled for next year.
"The preparations for the census are in full swing in order to complete them according to the specific time limits," ministry spokesman Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi said in a statement.
He explained that "there is a ministerial order issued to form the Chamber of Operations of the General Census of Population and Housing 2020 headed by the head of the Central Statistical Organization Diaa Awad Kazem and includes members of representatives of the Kurdistan region and a number of general managers and department managers and heads of labor sectors for the census."
He pointed out that "the operations room will develop the general plan for the census and study plans and proposals submitted by heads of sectors of work and follow-up preparatory work in all stages and the work of the higher committees in the provinces and submit their recommendations to the Supreme Commission for the census."
"Another ministerial order issued by the Executive Directorate for the General Population and Housing Census is headed by an executive director with the rank of Director General with expertise and specialization in the field of demographic statistics," Hindawi said.
He pointed out that "the administration is linked to the head of the operations room and is working on the preparation of the comprehensive plan for the census and sub-plans according to the stages and timing of time and human and material requirements for the success of the census, as well as taking the collection of demographic and economic and social data of the population and statistical data on housing and occupants within a specified period of time and promised all people who Enjoy the Iraqi nationality whether they reside in Iraq or abroad, in addition to counting non-Iraqis residing in Iraq. "
It is estimated that the population of Iraq, including the Kurdistan region is currently more than 38 million people.
In July 2018, Iraq's population growth rate dropped to 2.6 percent, according to the Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation, noting that Iraq's population is increasing annually by 850,000 to 1 million.
