US General: Iraq is moving in the right direction

    Baghdad
(IBA). General Lloyd Austin appointed to take over the central command
responsible for the Middle East Thursday that the situation in Iraq is
"troubling" in light of the escalation in the country's political and
    sectarian tension.

"Gen. Austin who was the last Commander of
American forces in Iraq before withdrawing at the end of 2011, the
country has maintained its stability but" crisp ".

    During the
meeting, he said it before the Senate Armed Services Committee that
"some of the things that we see in Iraq, with the existing tension among
    Arabs, and Sunni demonstrations."

    Responding to a question by
Republican Senator John McCain, who was a critic of President Barack
Obama's policy to withdraw from Iraq, whether this country is going "in
the right direction," the officer replied in the negative.

    When
asked by McCain "was a different situation if we kept troops there?"
Austin acknowledged that the US military presence had helped the
    country.

"I think that if we can continue to provide advice and assistance for the Iraqis, they certainly continued to improve."

    Obama
administration has sought to negotiate with Iraq on keeping force
there, but the Iraqi Government refused to grant us forces on its
    territory legal immunity.

But McCain and other members of Congress said the White House had not coordinated effort to reach an agreement in this regard.

    Austin
said that despite fears there are also some encouraging signs,
including oil production, and the performance of Iraqi security forces
that they remain unified despite the political crisis.

    He said
that security forces "have repeatedly faced challenges on the security
front, but remained intact, and remained loyal to the civilian
    leadership, did not disintegrate."

"There is if an element or
elements indicate if they take the right decisions, then I think they
have a chance to move in the right direction. But at the moment these
decisions had been taken, and this is worrying. "

    Austin
responded to questions about Iraq and other hot spots before the armed
services Committee in a hearing on top US central command that oversees
US forces in a region of the Middle East and Afghanistan.(End)
