Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree that would facilitate Russian citizenship for specific groups of citizens of Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen and Afghanistan, Russian media reported on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Kremlin press office, on May 1, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to facilitate the acquisition of Russian citizenship for specific groups of citizens of Syria, Ukraine, Iraq, Yemen and Afghanistan. The decree states that the granting of Russian citizenship to citizens of Syria and Iraq Yemen and Afghanistan born on the territory of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Russia, who previously held Soviet citizenship and their children, including adoptive, and their husbands and fathers. "
The citizens of Ukraine, who are not citizens of another country who were born and permanently resident in the territory of the Crimea and Sevastopol, who left the territory before 18 years of age, were granted the right to certain categories of Ukrainian citizens by simplifying their procedures for obtaining Russian citizenship. As well as their children, including adoptive women, their wives and their parents.
According to the decree, Russian citizenship is also granted to stateless persons who were born and permanently resident in the territory of the Crimea and Sevastopol who left the territories before 18 March 2014, as well as their children, including adoptive women, their wives and fathers, as well as all citizens of Ukraine.
The statement pointed out that these procedures are withdrawn on holders of temporary or permanent residence in Russia, or a document of refugees within the territory of Russia, and covered by the Russian government program for voluntary resettlement in Russia for citizens abroad and residents of specific areas in the provinces of Donetsk and Lugansk in southeastern Ukraine.
