"I talked with the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, about the prospects for our self-fulfilling business relationships and our strong ties, which could become stronger than ever," Trump said in a tweet on Twitter.

He said he assured his Brazilian counterpart that the United States was ready to help Brazil put out fires in the Amazon jungle some two weeks ago.

On Friday, the Brazilian president ordered army units to act to help quell the days of wildfires in the Amazon, amid international outrage and condemnation of the way the Brazilian authorities dealt with the disaster in the region.

Environmental organizations and Brazilian activists have also accused President Bolsonaro of seeking to destroy forests.
