Trump offers three options to respond to Turkey: mediate, financial blow or send soldiers
US President Donald Trump on Thursday presented three options to deal with the Turkish invasion of western Kurdistan (Syria Kurdistan) two days ago, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries and the displacement of tens of thousands.
"We have completely defeated the caliphate of ISIS, and we no longer have any troops in the area under attack by Turkey, in Syria," Trump said on Twitter. "We have fully licensed our work, and now Turkey is attacking the Kurds," he said. "They have been fighting each other for 200 years."
The president outlined his country's options for dealing with the Turkish invasion, saying: "We have one of three options: sending thousands of troops and victory militarily, or a financial blow to Turkey with sanctions, or brokering a deal between Turkey and the Kurds."
Trump, in a previous tweet on Thursday, threatened to hit Turkey financially "severely" and impose sanctions, in conjunction with the continuing military operation launched by Ankara in northeastern Syria, and said he was watching the situation closely.
