The Legal Committee of the House of Representatives identified, on Wednesday, only one case in which the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, could replace the Prime Minister.
"The president of the republic does not replace the prime minister in the event that the legal and constitutional period for designating the new prime minister ends," said committee member Salim Hamza.
And he added, "Unless the position of prime minister becomes vacant, the alternative will be the president of the republic and he will exercise his constitutional powers for the two positions in full and for a limited period of one or two months until the appointment of a new prime minister."
