, informed government sources revealed, on Monday, that the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, will appoint the candidate for the post of prime minister today.
The sources told Mawazine News that "the President of the Republic will appoint today, the candidate for the post of prime minister, a substitute for the Prime Minister of Israel, Smail Adel Abdul Mahdi."

The demonstrators set a deadline until Monday, January 20, to choose a new transitional prime minister, or else the protests escalate until their demands are implemented.
The Adel Abdul Mahdi government announced its resignation last November, against the backdrop of the violent protests that began in early October, which call for the dismissal of the government and the holding of early parliamentary elections, after the deteriorating economic conditions and the poor level of basic services.
