The Kuwaiti government broke its silence regarding the remains of 7 bodies, which were found in Al-Muthanna Governorate, which the Iraqi government confirmed was a "mass grave of Kuwaiti prisoners executed by Saddam Hussein's regime."
The Kuwaiti government responded, in the words of its Foreign Minister, Nasser Al-Hain, who said, "It is not possible to confirm with regard to the images circulated on social media of remains found in Iraq and said to belong to Kuwaiti prisoners, only after the transfer of these remains to Kuwait and a genetic examination."
The Kuwaiti official said, in a statement circulated by the Kuwait News Agency, that "the General Department of Criminal Evidence of the Ministry of Interior (Kuwaiti) is concerned with examining the remains through a careful examination process and based on the genetic data base of the prisoners."
And on the 27th of last July, Al-Muthanna Governorate announced the finding of a new mass grave containing the remains of prisoners, who they said were "Kuwaitis who went missing during the Gulf War in the 1990s."
"We found today a mass grave, preliminary information indicates that it is for Kuwaiti prisoners executed by the defunct regime in the province’s desert," Governor Ahmed Menfi Judeh said in an official statement.
"This came after security and intelligence information, as the local government informed the competent authorities to take legal measures to verify the cemetery," he added.
Kuwait says that the number of its missing since 1990, when the Iraqi army entered Kuwait, reached 320, while Iraq said that more than 5 thousand Iraqis "are still missing since that year."
Baghdad and Kuwait resumed their relations in 2003, following the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's regime, by international forces led by the United States.
