The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs received, on Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs the third batch of Kuwaiti property and archives that were seized during the period of the confrontational invasion of the State of Kuwait in 1990.
The handover ceremony that took place at the (Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute) was attended by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Kuwaiti for international organizations affairs, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hien, the Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Legal Affairs, Ambassador Qahtan Al-Janabi, the representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and the Resident Coordinator for the State of Kuwait, Tariq Al-Sheikh, and the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for News and Political Programs Saud Al-Khalidi
Ambassador Al-Hien said in a statement to reporters during the handover ceremony that this "positive step" comes within the commitment of Iraq to implement the Security Council resolutions related to the liberation of Kuwait, including Resolution No. (2107).
Al-Hain stressed that this step pushes further steps towards strengthening the fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries, expressing the State of Kuwait welcoming the efforts made by the Iraqi government to complete the handover of all Kuwaiti property and archives.
He explained that the third batch includes properties, archives and some special equipment of the Ministry of Information, the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature, and Kuwait University. In response to a question about the Kuwaiti authorities finding the remains of an Iraqi soldier on Bubiyan Island, who was since entering Kuwait in 1990 and was recently identified in the country, Ambassador Al-Hain said that the General Department of Criminal Evidence at the Ministry of Interior has taken the necessary measures in this regard and the remains of the Iraqi soldier will be handed over to the Iraqi delegation that Ambassador Al-Janabi is currently visiting the country, before they leave Kuwait next Tuesday.
He affirmed the State of Kuwait's keenness to do everything that would end this humanitarian file by identifying the fate of the prisoners and the missing, stressing in this regard the continuation of the relentless efforts being made in order to know the fate of the Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons in Iraq.
For his part, Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Legal Affairs Ambassador Qahtan Al-Janabi affirmed in a similar statement the keenness of the Iraqi government and people to develop bilateral relations with sisterly Kuwait.
Al-Janabi considered that the step taken today to hand over the third batch of Kuwaiti property and archives is one of the serious steps in bridging relations between the two brotherly countries.
He reaffirmed "Iraq’s keenness to overcome all difficulties to restore relations to normal and to start new distinguished relations through which we aspire to activate cooperation in all political, economic, commercial, investment and cultural fields, especially since the two peoples have many relations between them."
For his part, the representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and the resident coordinator in the State of Kuwait, Tariq Al-Sheikh, in a similar statement, praised the Kuwaiti-Iraqi efforts that work towards achieving peace and ending all pending issues between the two countries.
The Sheikh affirmed that these efforts are working to consolidate the bonds of cooperation and development for the two brotherly peoples and to return all matters to their true status between the two countries.
"We value these great efforts made by the Iraqi government, and we also appreciate the good spirit of the State of Kuwait and the warm reception of the Iraqi mission," he said, stressing that this positive action enhances cooperation efforts between the two countries in all fields.
In turn, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for News and Political Programs Saud Al-Khaldi said in a similar statement that the third batch of Kuwaiti property and archives received by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs today from its Iraqi counterpart today contains cinematic devices and tapes for Kuwait TV.
Al-Khalidi expressed his sincere thanks to the government of Iraq for handing over the Kuwaiti property and archives, wishing more cooperation during the coming period to hand over all the property.
