    Yes Iraq: Follow up

The Iraqi embassy in Amman announced, on Monday, that the Jordanian authorities agreed to its request to allow Iraqi students with residency or entry visas to enter the Kingdom by land through the Trebil-Karama border crossing for the purpose of completing their studies.

The embassy did not give any additional details, but said in a statement that it would provide more information on the mechanisms used to facilitate the entry of students "later".

The crossing, which was closed to tourism and private travel, and remained open to trade, has special significance for the two countries, through which they conduct most of their trade exchange.

ISIS took control of the crossing in 2014 before Iraqi forces announced its liberation in 2015, but it remained completely or partially closed to trade for several years.

A source at the Border Crossings Authority said that the crossing remained open for trade purposes, but the travel of people through it was disrupted due to the spread of the Corona virus in the two countries and the measures taken to try to contain the virus.

The Iraqi authorities suspended the evening work of the Trebil crossing, last November, due to "terrorist threats."

At the beginning of this March, Iraq and Jordan signed an agreement to develop work at the crossing to include granting drivers from both sides multiple-entry visas, as well as agreeing mechanisms for inspecting trucks and working to reduce time and costs for exporters and importers between the two countries.
