    {Economic: Al Furat News} Oil prices rose on Friday, boosted by hopes for a recovery in demand as economic growth rebounded and the lockdown waned, but concerns about India's mounting second wave of COVID-19 cases limited the gains.

    Brent crude futures rose 42 cents, or 0.6 percent, to $ 65.82 a barrel at 0645 GMT, after rising eight cents on Thursday.
    West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures jumped 51 cents, or 0.8%, to $ 61.94 a barrel, after also rising 8 percent on Thursday.
    "Oil prices rebounded for the second day in a row as US jobless claims data, which came lower than expected, boosted expectations for energy demand in North America," said Margaret Young, a strategist at DailyFX in Singapore. 
    "The recent macro data from the United States and China were encouraging, reflecting a strong economic recovery from the two largest economies in the world, while OPEC + is expected to keep current production plans unchanged at next week's meeting, which helps stabilize oil prices."
    Refiner Valero said demand for gasoline and diesel has returned to 93% and 100% of levels they were before the pandemic, with chief trade officer Gary Simmons saying the company is "very optimistic about gasoline in the future." Read more
    Meanwhile, some improved conditions in Europe have reinforced sentiment as France said schools will open their doors on Monday and that domestic travel restrictions in place will end on May 3. 
    Analysts said that the resurgence of infections in India and Japan indicates a recovery in unequal demand in different parts of the world and that oil prices may come under further pressure if the situation worsens in these key markets.
    "Energy markets remain on hold ahead of next week's OPEC + meeting, and with fears of India consuming the gains," said Jeffrey Haley, chief market analyst at Oanda.
    Both benchmark crude contracts are heading for a weekly loss of nearly 2% due to concerns about declining fuel demand in India, the world's third-largest oil importer, as daily injuries and deaths from COVID-19 set new records this week. Read more
    Several countries, including Australia, Britain, Canada and the United Arab Emirates, have banned or cut flights from India.
