The official spokesman of the Ministry, Mortada Al-Safi, said in a press statement, that "the works related to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the petrochemical, iron and steel plants have reached advanced stages," indicating that "their opening will contribute to supporting the national industry in addition to providing the raw materials involved in a large number of different industries, as well as Provision of hard currency used to import it from outside the country.
The Ministry of Industry announced last year that the governor of Basra had provided financial support in the amount of 50 billion dinars to complete the iron and steel factory project, which had been suspended for 15 years, and that there is cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and the American company (Shell) to develop plans for the (Al-Nebras) petrochemical project in Basra, which It is one of the largest projects in the country.
And he indicated that "work is also underway in full swing to implement the work related to the establishment of an integrated industrial city in Dhi Qar Governorate," noting that "the importance of opening this project lies in providing job opportunities for the people of the governorate and the neighboring governorates."
Al-Safi disclosed that "the ministry has received continuous offers from a number of neighboring countries to buy its various products," declaring that "four items of materials produced by the General Company for Mining Industries have been exported to the UAE, namely: asphalt, prime coat, and blackcream."
