Matter.
Iraqi farmers complain of flooding the market with crops imported from Iran at the expense of Iraqiya in the harvest season and their abundance in the local market, expressing their anger at the government's inability to protect the local product and encourage production.

Among the most prominent crops that Iraq is famous for and is available in the Iraqi market these days, the red watermelon crop, which is known in Iraq and parts of Syria as “ruqy”, in reference to the Syrian city of Raqqa, which was famous for this type of watermelon.

However, the Iraqi market is currently suffering from a depressed local crop due to competition from its Iranian counterpart, which is sold at almost half the value.

Farmer Ahmed Al-Baldawi said, "Iraq is witnessing this year a very large abundance of red sprigs, indicating that this abundance enables Iraq to export to other countries."

He added that "the Iraqi farmer is facing great difficulty in selling his crop due to Iranian competition," noting that Iranian crops have almost absolute control over the Iraqi market, as they are protected from parties and armed groups and influential people in the state, although it is not measured by the quality of local crops.

For his part, farmer Jawad al-Gharabawi said that “farmers in Iraq are exposed annually on such days to great losses, due to the import of Iranian fruits and vegetables, especially red sprigs and yellow watermelons, with the beginning of the harvest season of these crops, which their farmers call“ gold ”because of the amount they generate. Big profits for them. ”

He pointed out that “watermelon in the regions of Salah al-Din, Kirkuk and Diyala is one of the most important summer crops for farmers, as it is an important economic resource for thousands of farmers, but unfortunately it has become fought by the authorities who deliberately flood the market with Iranian goods and vegetables that are sold at low prices.”

Across the border, including fruits, vegetables and food.
Iraq has about 22 border outlets with neighboring countries along its borders with the six surrounding countries.
For its part, a member of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee in the previous parliamentary session, Shurooq Al-Abaiji, said that “the policy of flooding the Iraqi market with agricultural products, since 2003 until the moment, has a clear goal, which is to destroy the Iraqi economy, especially the agricultural sector, as it is one of the most important and prominent economic tributaries. For the state budget ”.

She added in her interview with Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that “Agricultural crops in all countries of the world are cheaper than imported products to encourage consumers to buy them, except in Iraq, because the Iraqi government does not have development plans to protect the local product and develop the agricultural sector, even though Iraq has All the ingredients for the advancement of the agricultural situation and the achievement of self-sufficiency and food security.

In this regard, the director of Al-Azim district in Diyala province, eastern Iraq, Abdul-Jabbar Ahmad Al-Obaidi, said in a press statement, “The city, which is considered one of the most famous areas in Iraq in the cultivation of sophistication, has begun to export the high-quality crop gradually, starting from this month until early Next July, which is the golden season for farmers, which requires a serious pause and government support to preserve the local product, and to avoid heavy material losses that affect farmers in the event that the import of uplifting from other countries is not stopped, ”referring to Iran.
In addition, a member of the agricultural societies, Nasser Al-Hadidi, told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that “the local product of watermelon and other agricultural crops is exposed to a real conspiracy aimed at obliterating the identity of the Iraqi product,” noting that “Iraq, on such days, is achieving self-sufficiency from Many agricultural crops that the government imports from abroad, especially from Iran.
