A member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Sabah Al-Tallobi, revealed, Thursday (July 1, 2021), the percentage of resources that Iraq obtains from taxes, indicating that 90% of tax revenues are not collected due to underdevelopment and job corruption.
In a statement to IQ News , Al-Talbawi said  that "Iraqi laws include a special tax law, and it was approved many years ago," noting that "the problem is in the application of that law and not in the law itself."
He pointed out, "Taxes are state resources that can be exploited in many things, but this tax evasion is intentional," noting that "large parties are working not to pay their taxes, and job corruption is added to it."
And he indicated that "there is an agreement between some tax officials, shop owners and companies from which the tax is to be taken, where the tax is reduced, for example, if the allocated tax amount is 3 million, it is reduced to a very simple amount," noting that "it is not possible to treat the case of Tax evasion because the information does not reach the accurate level to the competent authorities, such as the integrity or the inspection bodies.
Al-Talobi stressed, "The adoption of the electronic system and automation in taxes contributes to solving the problem," noting that "it is difficult to follow up on taxes in the presence of employees in the old job contexts, in which work is very difficult."
He pointed out that "Iraq does not get 10% of the real resources for taxes, and perhaps less, because of underdevelopment and rampant corruption," noting that "it is unreasonable that taxes work in old ways, and 90% of people are tax evaders."
He attributed the reasons for tax evasion to the fact that "some groups circumvent paying taxes because they see that there is no real service provided by the government in exchange for those taxes."
