, Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Jamal Kougar, on Thursday (September 19, 2021), called on the international community to prevent Iraqi officials from investing in countries of the world with smuggled Iraqi public funds.

Cougar told IQ News, "Iraq has great cooperation with some regional and international countries in the fight against corruption, but what we need is the enactment of new laws that tighten punishment for the corrupt, as well as great diplomatic efforts in order to recover those funds."

He added that "financial, administrative and even political corruption in the country has become a system practiced by large mafias that possess power, powers and influence, and this is the biggest problem in Iraq, and it is done through economic deals and during the disbursement of the public investment budget."

He pointed to "the ability of the international community to prevent Iraqi officials from investing in their countries in money that is smuggled or stolen."

Unofficial reports estimate the smuggling of about 350 billion dollars from Iraq after 2003, which belongs to the state, while Baghdad seeks to recover these funds, while officials complain about the lack of cooperation by some countries in this regard.
