    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Water Resources identified the reasons for postponing the talks to reach an agreement with Iran on the water file, while indicating the existence of a movement for a joint office to manage the waters of the Shatt al-Arab.
The ministry’s advisor, Aoun Diab, said, “The ministry’s goal is to reach an agreement with neighboring Iran, especially as the current year is severely dry, with the expectation that the coming year will be dry as well, which necessitates working on understandings.”
He continued, "Unfortunately, the elections in Iran are the reason for the disruption of the issue, although the Minister of Resources met with the concerned people in the Iranian Ministry of Energy during his visit to Iran, for the purpose of solving problems, but they have not been resolved so far, and Iraq is now also on the verge of elections," expressing his hope for "a major intervention." Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to resolve this matter.”
He added that "there are arguments from them regarding the 1975 agreement, as it is the reference for entering into negotiations with them, as it has an annexed protocol that defines and classifies this issue as well, and there are many approved criteria that serve us in that."
Diab continued, "The agreement remained stagnant because of the war, and it must be activated, especially since we suffer from a water problem because we suffer from a severe drought in the Al-Hawizeh Marsh, because its main feeder is the Karkheh River in Iran, which Iran cut off completely, after we witnessed its large flow in The year 2019 almost caused us to drown in crazy.”
He stated, “If we discuss the agreement, then everything contains solutions, in order to resolve the issue of the river borders and demarcation of the borders, from which we proceed to the issue of managing the Shatt al-Arab with Iran within a joint office,” noting that “the environment of the Shatt al-Arab is threatened annually due to the dangerous rise of salt, and an understanding must be reached to reach for the goal.”
Diab pointed out that “as a result of the lack of a positive reaction; We asked to resort to internationalizing the case and go to the International Court of Justice, as it is the one that depends on these data that we have and pushes us to win the invitation,” calling for “the matter to mature diplomatically by the government.”
And Diab indicated that "we passed the ordeal in Diyala, and were able to secure drinking water and provided water from wells in order to irrigate crops within 160 wells. We rehabilitated them and dug many wells."
He explained that “regarding the drought in al-Hawizeh, we started with the fact that it needs large quantities of water, and this issue is subject to several considerations, and work is currently in progress regarding the central marshes, as we have good water in the Chabayish and the Hammar marsh is good, and the problem is only in the al-Hawiza marsh. The internal sources of nutrition were not able to connect The quantities of water from it, due to the summer planting season,” adding that “a month ago we started managing the issue so that the amount of water reaching the Kut depression began to increase gradually, and it is expected to continue automatically as a result of the correct use of water.”
