Al-Arab newspaper revealed moves by Muhammad Reda, son of the supreme authority, Ali al - Sistani, in preparation for a meeting in Najaf for the leaders of Shiite blocs with the aim of bringing views and agreeing on a consensual candidate for prime minister and ending the crisis.
The London-based Al-Arab newspaper, followed by NRT Arabia, (20 October 2021), said that "the son of the Supreme Leader, Ali al-Sistani, will intervene to end the crisis that arose after the results were announced, while indicating that Mr. Muhammad Reda paves the way for a meeting that brings together most of the leaders of Shiite blocs and parties." .
The newspaper explained that "the meeting, which will be led by Al-Sistani's son, will be held in the city of Najaf, bringing together the leaders of the Shiite blocs participating in the legislative elections, in order to conclude an agreement to form the government and choose the prime minister, and to prevent the dispute over the election results from turning into a war."
And she added, "The deliberations and contacts are continuing between those authorized to negotiate on behalf of the electoral blocs, in order to reach an acceptable formula that paves the way for the Najaf meeting, which is hoped to be held within days, and if the meeting is held, which it is hoped that the leaders of the Shiite blocs will attend, it will be the first that brings face to face the leader of the State of Law coalition." Nouri al-Maliki and his arch-rival, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, for years.
