{Economic: Al Furat News} The Border Ports Authority clarified Kuwait's decision to reopen the {Abdali} land port with Iraq next week, after a months-long closure.
The Director General of the ports, Omar Al-Waeli, said in a press statement, "This port has an important economic and commercial importance between the two countries."
He added, "With regard to the Abdali port, it must be clarified in this regard that the Safwan border port and the port opposite it, which is the Abdali port, were closed in the third month (March) of the year 2020, when the Corona pandemic spread, and that was based on a decision by the two countries."
Al-Waeli indicated that "this decision will increase trade and economic cooperation between Kuwait and Iraq through this port," stressing that "this matter is welcomed by everyone."
Regarding the future importance of this port, Al-Waeli pointed out that "Kuwait has one land port with Iraq, and therefore there will be economic and commercial importance to increase work in this port now and in the future."
And Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sabah Al-Khaled announced yesterday, Thursday, the opening of the Abdali port (Safwan from the Iraqi side) with Iraq next week, in order to increase economic cooperation, trade exchange and movement between Kuwait and Iraq in accordance with health requirements.
