    Information / follow up...
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) predicted an economic recovery for the Arab region in 2022 and 2023.
The newspaper "Hespress" quoted "ESCWA" as saying in a research entitled "Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region 2020-2021", in which it expected the continuation of the economic recovery that began in 2021, bringing the region's gross domestic product to 3.7 percent in 2022, and 3 .6 percent in 2023.
The committee predicted that the pace of recovery will vary between countries according to several criteria, including the speed of vaccination campaigns against the Corona virus, oil and tourism revenues, and the volume of remittances and development aid flows.
In its forecasts, the committee relied on two scenarios, one conservative and the other optimistic. The first assumes that the pace of vaccination will continue at its slow pace, with an average oil price of $60 per barrel, while the other assumes the progress of vaccination campaigns and an increase in global oil demand, and that the average oil price is $80 per barrel.
For his part, Ahmed Moumi, the supervisor of the research team, expected that poverty rates in the Arab region will decrease from 27 percent of the total population in 2021 to about 26 percent in 2023, with the persistence of disparities between groups of countries, with unemployment rates remaining in The region has one of the highest rates in the world, reaching 10.7 percent in 2023, after it was 11.8 percent in 2021.
The committee added in its expectations that the gross domestic product in countries affected by conflicts will grow by 4.5 percent in 2022, and 6.9 percent in 2023, noting that these expectations may be strongly affected by the repercussions of the new mutation of the Corona virus “Omicron” to achieve growth rates of no more than 2.8 percent in 2022, before recovering again in 2023, with growth rates reaching 6.4 percent. finished 25
