A spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Moussa, revealed the reasons that led to the decrease in the hours of supplying electric power.
Moussa attributed the decline in the hours of energy supply in Baghdad, the Middle Euphrates and Diyala governorates to the bad weather conditions, which in turn led to the reduction of national gas supplies by fifty percent, in addition to the suspension of many generating units, indicating that the electrical system in Iraq is in a bad situation as it needs Iranian gas and funds. And Iranian lines, which are not available in their entirety at the present time, as he put it.
The spokesman referred to the suspension of four Iranian lines supplying Iraq with energy due to the existence of financial dues to Iran owed by Iraq, pointing out that Iraq does not have alternatives to Iranian gas at the present time.
Experts and specialists believe that the file of financial and administrative corruption is the main dilemma that stands in the way of improving the electricity reality in Iraq.
The documents, which were published over the past years, reveal the inability of governments to provide electricity despite spending tens of billions of dollars, which were enough to build the most modern networks in the world.
Officials estimate Iraq's spending of about $60 billion to advance the electricity sector, without Iraqis seeing any noticeable improvement, and the country has not seen the construction of any solid and effective generating station.
