Judge "Saddam Hussein" expects to be chosen as a compromise candidate by the Democrats and the Union
Shafaq News/ Rizgar Hama Amin, the candidate for the presidency, the judge who tried Saddam Hussein, expected on Saturday to be chosen as a compromise candidate by the two main Kurdish parties, the Democratic Union and the Union.
Amin said in a press conference in Sulaymaniyah attended by Shafak News Agency, that there are candidates supported by their parties, but members of Parliament must vote according to their conscience.
He indicated that he does not want to win the position in isolation from the Kurdish blocs, adding, "He did not communicate with any party publicly or secretly to obtain this position, and I am sure that all parties and parties support me, and they will not stand in my way, and with this we will see some surprises. .
He said that if one of the two major parties, the Union and the Democratic Party, did not vote for him, he could not win the office.
Amin expected his selection as a compromise candidate by the two parties, saying, "My candidacy could become a reason for the unification of the Kurdish House. If the parties do not agree on a candidate, I will become a candidate for the two parties."
Amin added that "the human rights situation in Iraq is unstable and justice needs to be reconsidered, and whoever holds the presidency of the republic can work with other parties on this matter."
Twenty-five candidates are competing for the position of President of the Republic, most notably the Union candidate, the current president, Barham Salih, and the Democratic candidate, Hoshyar Zebari.
The Iraqi parliament is scheduled to convene on Monday to choose one of the candidates, amid fears that a quorum could not be achieved due to the Sadrist bloc's boycott of the session.
