The mayor of Mosul announces his resignation: the land mafias were stronger than the state
Shafaq News/ The mayor of Mosul, Zuhair Al-Araji, announced on Tuesday his resignation from his position.
Al-Araji said in a press conference inside the District Commissioner's building attended by Shafak News Agency, that "the time has come to make room for others to work, and that when he took over the position of District Commissioner, it was agreed with all parties to stay in it for one year after liberation, and today several years have passed."
He added, "He will remain engaged in his business until the governor finds a replacement for him."
Al-Araji pointed out that "the land mafias were stronger than the state, and by force of arms, they took what they wanted over the past years, even before 2014."
