The Department of Retirement and Social Security for Workers in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced, on Monday, that an important agreement has been reached with the Korean company executing the Karbala refinery project, which includes the appointment of 2002 Iraqi employees and workers in the refinery.
And the Director General of Retirement and Social Security for Workers, Kholoud Al-Jabri, confirmed in a statement received by (Al-Mada), that "this agreement came after long negotiations with the company that relied on foreign labor in a very large percentage and refused to use Iraqi workers for reasons and flimsy arguments, which we rejected altogether and in detail."
And she added, "Many violations and abuses were recorded on the executing company and we put an end to it, and we forced it to implement the Iraqi Labor Law, which stipulates the necessity of employing Iraqi workers in any project implemented in Iraq by 50%." Al-Jabri said, "We are now in the process of putting the final touches for the purpose of completing the procedures for appointing Iraqi workers, and this agreement will be implemented with the rest of the projects in succession in order to preserve the rights of the Iraqi worker.
