Shafaq News / The British newspaper "The Guardian" considered that Iraq is a lost country and that the current political crisis it is experiencing is "more complex" than most of what the country has witnessed during the past two decades.
The British newspaper pointed out, in a report translated by Shafak News Agency, that "Iran will be able to get what it wants in Iraq, and the Kurds will be forced to accept Iranian interests, with the aim of facilitating the formation of the new Iraqi government."
The British report summarized what is happening in Iraq, saying, "Parliament is besieged by protesters, the country is lost after 9 months of the elections, and there is hostility between local blocs and Iran's proxies," adding that "many Iraqis believe that the recent political crisis is not something new.
complex democracy
The report stated, "This confrontation appears to be more complex and prolonged than most crises that have passed through more than two decades of efforts made to implant a democratic state in Iraq."
He pointed out that "there is little hope, from the Kurdistan Region, to the Anbar Governorate in the west, and the Shiite communities in the south, for the emergence of a government that seeks to achieve the collective national interest through this struggle for power."
The British report stated, "There are many indications that Iran, after carrying out a debilitating campaign of attrition, will be able to achieve its goal in the end and consolidate its control over key sites in a weak state and be able, at an unprecedented level, to dictate its conditions."
The British report talked about Erbil, which was recently hit by missiles launched by Iranian proxies, according to the report, "which caused turmoil and uncertainty, and that the region's leaders are slowly changing their positions about what should happen next."
kurdish confederation
In light of this failure, the report indicated that "Prime Minister Masrour Barzani began discussing a new decentralized confederation model that would withdraw power from Baghdad, giving the Kurds and other ethnic and sectarian segments more power in managing their own affairs."
The report quoted Barzani as saying to the Chatham House think-tank in London last April that "the confederation can constitute a solution for all Iraqis.
Barzani's statements were a clear departure from the acceptance of the centralized model that Washington, until recently, has been investing in since the US military toppled Saddam Hussein nearly 20 years ago.
US interest in defending democracy in Iraq waned greatly during the first year of the Biden administration, leading Kurdish officials to consider aligning with Iranian interests to finally form a government in Baghdad.
A senior Kurdish official said, according to a British newspaper report, that "Tehran has an advantage over Washington in Iraq, and there is a constant that will continue to withstand and excel over the United States, and it was an expected and preventable result, as it took al-Sadr 10 months to accept it, and described it as resigning because he realized he was still Many refuse to accept it: Iran is here to stay."
Al-Sadr had mobilized his followers to protest the nomination of a group allied with Iran for the former minister and regional governor, Muhammad Al-Sudani, for the position of prime minister. Despite not being in Parliament, the controversial cleric appears to insist on naming a "new leader".
The Iranian blocs suffered heavy losses in the elections that would have greatly reduced Tehran’s powers in the Legislative Council and in other Iraqi institutions, since then, its proxies have tried to regain a foothold while putting pressure on opponents, particularly the country’s Kurds, who were trying to build An oil and gas export industry that operates separately from Baghdad."
Kormore bombing
The report mentioned the missile attacks carried out by Iranian proxies frequently on the Kurdistan gas infrastructure, in moves that were received as specific warnings not to go too far at home and return to the negotiating table at the national level.
Meanwhile, Kurdish pleas to Washington have gone unanswered, as the Biden administration tries to strike a deal for Iran to return to the nuclear deal, according to the report.

British report: Iraq is lost on the outskirts of green, and Iran is the closest to achieving its goal
