    Alsumaria news - translation
A report by Reuters news agency described today, Saturday, the supreme religious authority, Ali al-Sistani, as "the most powerful man" in Iraq.

Reuters published its report entitled: "How a 92-year-old cleric stopped Iraq's slide back into war."

When a statement by a religious scholar in Iran pushed Iraq to the brink of civil war last week, there was only one man who could stop it: a 92-year-old Iraqi Shiite cleric who once again proved to be the most powerful man in his country. ".

He added, "Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani did not say anything publicly about the unrest that erupted in the streets of Iraq. But government officials say that only Mr. Sistani's behind-the-scenes stance stopped the collapse."

And the report stated, "Reuters spoke with nearly 20 officials from the Iraqi government, the Sadrist movement, and Shiite factions, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity, and all interviews indicated a decisive behind-the-scenes intervention by Mr. Sistani, who has never held an official political position in Iraq." .

An Iraqi government official told Reuters: "Mr. Sistani sent a message to Muqtada al-Sadr that if he did not stop the violence, Sistani would be forced to issue a statement calling for an end to the fighting."

Three Shiite figures based in Najaf and close to Sistani did not confirm that Sistani's office sent an explicit message to Sadr, but they said it was clear to Sadr that Sistani would speak soon unless Sadr stopped the unrest," according to a Reuters report.

On Monday (August 29, 2022), demonstrators stormed the presidential palaces in Baghdad hours after the leader of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr announced his final retirement from political work and the closure of all institutions, after which armed clashes and explosions erupted inside the Green Zone in the center of the capital, which resulted in casualties.

Also on Monday (August 29, 2022), the Joint Operations Command announced the imposition of a comprehensive curfew in the capital, Baghdad, including vehicles and citizens, as of three thirty in the afternoon on Monday.

On Tuesday afternoon (August 30, 2022), the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, directed the withdrawal of the Sadrist movement from Parliament within one hour, after casualties and injuries.
