head of the Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, suggested on Tuesday (September 27, 2022) that members of the House of Representatives will not vote on the resignation of Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, in the session scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday.
"We hope that Mr. Al-Halbousi will withdraw his resignation, but if he insists on submitting it, I think that the deputies will not vote to accept it," Al-Hakim said during a special meeting within the activities of the Al-Rafidain Forum, which was attended by IQ News.
Yesterday, Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi confirmed that he will not impose his presence on the political partners, while indicating that his resignation is left to the conviction of the representatives.
Al-Halbousi said within the activities of the Al-Rafidain Forum for Dialogue, in a speech followed by IQ News, that "the parliament session was supposed to be held on the 20th of this month, and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi suggested postponing it."
He added, "I did not discuss my resignation decision with the leaders of the political blocs and colleagues," noting: "My resignation from the presidency of the parliament has nothing to do with the tripartite alliance."
Al-Halbousi explained, "The positions are a mandate, and everyone should be aware of the sensitivity of the stage," and added, "My resignation from the presidency of the parliament has nothing to do with the tripartite alliance."
He said, "I do not prevent any person from running for the presidency of the House of Representatives."
