The Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee revealed, on Monday, the amount of money spent on the electricity sector since 2003, pointing to the total amount of money amounting to 82 billion dollars, while it revealed that there are about two million transgressors and intruders on the electricity network.
A member of the committee, Faleh Al-Khazali, said, “After the formation of the Oil and Energy Committee in the previous parliamentary session, headed by the first deputy speaker of the former parliament, and with the participation of the Financial Supervision Bureau and the Integrity Commission, it came out with important recommendations, including investing all available energies to provide electric energy and providing all the necessary needs to enhance energy continuity and increase its production.” ".
He added that "what was spent on the operational and investment units in electricity amounts to 82 billion dollars, and now the energy is close to 24 thousand megawatts, while the actual need reaches 35 thousand megawatts, given that the population has reached 42 million people, with an annual increase of one million and 500 thousand people, with Existence of industrial and agricultural projects.
He pointed out that "the committee had a visit to the Ministry of Oil regarding gas stations and the need to invest in gas instead of importing, and at the same time work seriously by the government, as it promised in its platform to re-work and proceed with completing the suspended strategic projects, whose completion rate reaches 70 percent and upwards."
Al-Khazali called on the government to "commit to its ministerial approach to solving these problems," noting that "according to the statistics of the Ministry of Electricity, there are one million random housing units and one million intruders on the electric power grid, and therefore there are overlaps in some files, and resolving them will greatly contribute to the stability of electricity."
