On Thursday, the head of the Integrity Commission in the ruling Kurdistan region, Ahmed Anwar, said that there is a legal vacuum regarding the issue of combating money laundering in the region, stressing the need to address this matter by the concerned authorities.
Governor Anwar said in a press conference held today in Erbil, "Unfortunately, we have a legal vacuum regarding the issue of money laundering, and efforts should be made by the Ministry of Interior and the Kurdistan Parliament to address this issue in the near future, whether through the application of the Iraqi law issued in the year 2016 or through By proposing a special law for the region,” stressing that the issue of money laundering and recovery is very important, and that the Iraqi government is working on it.
He added, "We have good coordination with the Federal Integrity Commission regarding money laundering through the memorandum of understanding that we signed this year with the Central Bank of Iraq / Money Laundering Office."
