    Baghdad - Nas
The spokesman for the Iraqi government, Basem Al-Awadi, confirmed, on Saturday, that what was mentioned in Al-Sabah newspaper under the title (Will the Kurdistan region be dissolved?) Is a personal opinion, and does not represent a governmental or official point of view at all.

Al-Awadi said in a statement, which "NAS" received a copy of (February 18, 2023), that "the articles of the Iraqi constitution and what is stated in them regarding the fact that Iraq is a federal state, and the rest of the paragraphs that regulated the form of the relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan region, are one of the most important gains of the new Iraq, which The government is working to consolidate and support it, as a commitment from it, a legitimate government elected in accordance with the constitution, and is committed to implementing it, as well as all Iraqi laws in force.

On Saturday, the Information and Information Department of the Kurdistan Regional Government responded to a poll published by the official newspaper (Al-Sabah), entitled "Will the Kurdistan Region be dissolved?"

The Media and Information Department of the regional government said in a statement, which "NAS" received a copy of, (February 18, 2023), "Today, the Iraqi newspaper Al-Sabah published a report in which it claimed that an opinion poll concluded (citizens' frustration with the political authority in the region and their desire to return to Baghdad)." , indicating that "the center and the alleged poll on which the newspaper relied have no scientific basis and are far from true."

The statement added: "If Al-Sabah newspaper and those behind it believe in opinion polls, then the vast majority of the people of Kurdistan gave their speech on September 25, 2017, in the largest popular referendum and free vote, as they voted in favor of independence, but the Baghdad authorities at the time responded to the referendum and the opinions of citizens by launching A military attack and the use of the army against the people of Kurdistan and imposing a siege on them.

He continued, "The people of the provinces of Iraq testify for themselves that the Kurdistan region is ahead of other regions of Iraq by many years in terms of development, reconstruction, and services," wondering: "How then can the people of Kurdistan wish and request connection with destroyed and desolate regions in all fields!"

The statement indicated that "the Kurdistan region has its own legal and constitutional entity, which is the product of the blood of thousands of martyrs and the steadfastness of the heroic Peshmerga, and no authority has the ability to dissolve the Kurdistan region, and it will not be solved by what a bankrupt newspaper writes that spends a lot of money for it without anyone knowing if it is still there." Issued or closed!".

In today's issue, Al-Sabah newspaper published a poll stating:

Many citizens of the Kurdistan region have broken the "taboo" of the historical political gains achieved after 1991, as the region has a unique constitutional entity with broad powers under a federal state, and Erbil often deals with Baghdad as equals.

In light of the deterioration of the situation at various levels in the region, and the dwindling chances of resolving the permanent conflict between the two main parties, an opinion poll prepared by the Academic Center (Referendum and Analysis) revealed that there is popular acceptance of the dissolution of the constitutional entity of the region and the return to direct central authority.

This acceptance of this idea, which was forbidden to even think about, sheds more and more light on the chronic crisis the region is going through, in light of internal and external security, economic, and political risks.

The writer specializing in Islamic and Kurdish affairs, Mir Aqrawi, confirmed that what he described as "the bitter reality of the region" is what prompted the citizens of the region to this new desire, criticizing at the same time the political situation in Baghdad, pointing out that "the Kurdish people are caught between two poles."

Aqrawi said to "Al-Sabah": "There is no doubt that important factors from the region's bitter reality made a significant percentage of the Kurds yearn or desire to return to the central state," and added, especially "after the great frustration and disappointment that befell them as a result of the authority's policy." The family (....) that controls their necks, and the spread of tyranny and political, administrative, governmental and economic corruption.

He continued, "The Iraqi center lacks the strong independent political will to rule Iraq in accordance with the values of social justice, due to the influence of regional and outside powers in the Iraqi center in Baghdad," and indicated, "Therefore, the Kurdish people in the region are caught between the two poles of the millstone in their conditions, and there is no authority that governs them." In his name, it is fair, nor is the center in Baghdad governed by a government capable of extending its rule to all with justice, fairness, and fairness. The region is going through a permanent economic crisis and an endless dispute over its share in the general budget, which ends with an interim agreement.

The poet and writer Kanaan Hatem Murad attributed this popular trend to the situation in the Kurdistan region, which is no different from the situation in the rest of Iraq, enumerating the permanent problems that the region is going through.

Murad told Al-Sabah: "It seems that the public situation with regard to the Kurdistan region is not much different from the situation in the rest of Iraq, as the election results are in favor of the two main parties in the region, despite the clear resentment of the Kurdish people and the clear takeover by the parties." He added, "At a time when many citizens declared their desire to return to centralization, due to the lack of job opportunities and the lack of appointments, even for the first graduates with higher degrees, and the recurring seasonal crises such as the fuel crisis, floods, and others, we find that the issue of the referendum touched the feelings of many of the Kurdish people in achieving An old dream that nationalism would have a state for them, so the balance of the Kurdistan Democratic Party increased in the recent elections, in exchange for the decline of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

And while the Kurds forge a strong alliance with Western countries, they face intense hostility from countries in the region that have a large number of Kurds, such as Syria, Turkey and Iran.

For his part, writer and journalist Saman Daoud ruled out the dissolution of the Kurdistan region, stressing that the two main parties are very popular in the region.

Dawood told Al-Sabah: “The issue of resolving the Iraqi Kurdistan region is not an easy matter, and the Kurds, despite this, will not give up what they obtained easily, and this is their national entitlement, but that must be within a purely national framework.” He added, “The issue of resolving the region comes By opposition parties in Kurdistan, specifically in the city of Sulaymaniyah, and they are not equal to the two ruling parties in Iraqi Kurdistan.

He continued, "The majority of citizens belong to the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and this issue is what determines their future, and therefore we will find the majority rejecting this despite the polls that do not meet the purpose in light of the absence of an official movement from Baghdad or even from within the region."
