, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi called, on Thursday, for local banks to benefit from the Central Bank's initiative to support small and medium enterprises to create job opportunities for youth, increase national income, and reduce dependence on oil as the sole source of financing the treasury.
A statement by Al-Mandalawi's media office, received by Mawazine News, stated that the latter "received in his office the head of the Iraqi Private Banks Association, Wadih Handal, and a number of members."
Al-Mandalawi said, "The House of Representatives is following the procedures of the Central Bank and the government's decisions seeking to develop and develop the local banking sector. In return, the latter must take the initiative to develop its tools in order to enhance the citizen's confidence in it."
He added, "As well as strengthening coordination mechanisms to implement the largest possible number of service projects, as well as supporting the government reform package in financial and banking affairs, and fighting dangerous phenomena that threaten the security of the market and the citizen, especially currency smuggling, currency laundering, counterfeit currency, and others."
Al-Mandalawi called on local banks to "take advantage of the Central Bank's initiative to support small and medium enterprises in various sectors to create job opportunities for youth, increase national income, and reduce dependence on oil as the sole source of treasury financing in order to achieve economic stability, which will be an attractive environment for investors."
