A report by the Jewish Insider website confirmed that, despite the passage of more than twenty years since the US invasion of Iraq, the US Senate is still struggling to cancel the authorization to invade the country given to US President George W. Bush, between supporters and opponents of the cancellation decision.
The report, translated by the agency / information /, stated that "the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 13 votes to 8 to repeal the Financial Management Act of 1991 and 2002 related to race, as some lawmakers from both parties argued several years ago that the US administration's rules are outdated." time and are no longer necessary for ongoing operations.
Senator Jim Risch, a senior member of the committee, said, "The Iraq Invasion Authorization Act of 2002 has long been used to address threats emanating from Iraq such as resistance factions and was cited in the 2020 operation that led to the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis."
The report added that Risch called for the law to be retained, saying he was "as concerned about the message this repeal would send to the region as anything else." Proponents of repeal argued that "the other powers are mainly used in ongoing US strikes and conflicts and that changing them would not affect the ability of the states." the United States to strike the resistance factions and the popular crowd in Iraq.
The report stated that "Republican Senator Ted Cruz proposed an amendment specifying that the United States has the authority to attack Iran; it was voted on by 13 to 8 votes, while Senator Rand Paul's amendment to cancel the authorization for the invasion of Iraq, which supports the use of military force, was rejected by 20 votes to one."
The report indicated that "one of the senators asked to postpone voting on a bill aimed at establishing cooperative programs that include Iraq and the Gulf states to confront drones until the next meeting of the committee, while neither Risch nor committee chairman Bob Menendez, sponsors of the bill, responded to inquiries about the postponement." End/ 25 zd
