US military Chief holds Al-Maliki daash and alludes to the expanded military presence

    Thursday, 18 September 2014

Twilight news/u.s. Army Chief of staff General Ray Odierno that air strikes alone would not be sufficient to eradicate the fighters of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and that Baghdad would need training to rebuild ground forces able to "prosecute and uprooted."

Three years after the withdrawal of u.s. troops from Iraq, President Barack Obama ordered air strikes to halt the Islamic State's fighters who have achieved rapid progress this year with Iraqi forces vanished.

He said Odierno, who led u.s. forces in Iraq from 2008 to 2010 the sectarian bias in the Iraqi army and other deficiencies in the US training that led to the breakdown of the Iraqi forces to attack fighters of the Islamic State.

Odierno described what happened in Iraq was "very frustrating" and said the situation might have been better if u.s. troops remained in Iraq "because we would be able to follow closely what is happening there."

The United States is now working on building a broad international coalition to confront the Islamic State in Iraq.

Odierno said a limited number of journalists in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he will attend the Conference of European armies that air strikes stopped the Organization of the Islamic State in Iraq but this will be the "final solution".

"We must have the ground forces able to prosecute and uprooted in order to defeat them and destroy them for this reason required training and ability to train them (Iraqis) to do so is very important."

Obama said last week he authorized the air strikes for the first time in Syria, where the State Islamic fighters entrenched themselves in a civil war for more than three years. Odierno said "can not (allow) a safe haven (Islamic State) in Syria."

And the fight against the Islamic State in Syria is more complex because the United States and its allies hostile to the President on the lion. And intervention in Syria without government authorization could jeopardize u.s. aircraft because of Syrian air defenses.

Odierno said that the Organization of the Islamic State "the risk at the regional level and I think it's a potential risk in the future in Europe and the United States, it is therefore important for us to deal with it now (in cooperation) with our international partners."

Dempsey was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff on Tuesday raised the possibility that American forces a greater role in the war in Iraq against fighters of the Islamic State, but the White House stressed that the troops will not be deployed in a combat mission.

When asked about Odierno's comments, Dempsey said, "we take stock and we will give the best military advice in order to achieve the goals we have set."

He said the United States would welcome the assistance of other countries in training Iraqi security forces, including Peshmerga fighters. "There are some States seem to have a keen interest in doing so."

Odierno said it was unclear whether the US special forces will be involved in training fighters of the moderate opposition in Saudi Arabia but said it's possible.

"And over time built Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki sectarian forces are no longer accepted by all spectra of the Iraqi people. I've put the leaders in places other than qualified her. .. Not true that they had not received training on the fighting but refused to fight in the first place. "

Odierno said the u.s. partnership with the Iraqi armed forces would depend on being more representative of Iraqis. "And we look forward to the future, our business partnership with them will depend on those who are truly Iraq as a whole.
