The government intends to activate the investment sector by encouraging the private sector to invest in government projects to improve their reality, and accordingly, the Minister of Industry, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, revealed a government tendency to withdraw from investment projects and leave them in favor of the private sector to increase job opportunities in the country.
The Administrative Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry, Makki Ajeeb, is optimistic about this plan, as he stressed that it aims to achieve self-sufficiency, preserve the currency, and provide job opportunities.
Ajeeb told Al-Sabah: “The ministry’s plan aims to support the private sector, and it does not only want to rehabilitate factories, but rather open new production lines that keep pace with technological development.” He added that “Iraqi companies and factories do not have spare parts,” noting that “all The projects will be supported, and any citizen can present his project, and if there is a possibility for the private sector to open a production line, it is welcome.”
And he indicated that “there is a National Investment Authority, and we have a law for partnership contracts for those who want to enter into a partner with the ministry, and we have assets such as factories, lands, and concessions, where an agreement takes place between the investor and the company affiliated with the ministry.” He stressed, “We aim to reach self-sufficiency, preserve the currency and operate hands.” worker.”
In addition, a member of the Parliamentary Investment Committee, Soran Omar, warned of the infiltration of corrupt people into these projects, revealing the number of the Ministry of Industry's factories and their workers and the amount of their salaries.
Omar told Al-Sabah: “The Ministry of Industry has 28 factories and more than 100,000 employees whose salary bill is more than a trillion dinars, and they are all losing factories.” He added that “the most important thing in the plan is to transfer the factories to the private sector to rehabilitate them, because Participation with the private sector is necessary for Iraqi industry to grow,” describing the plan as “good.”
The deputy called for “providing a legal basis for both the government and private parties to ensure that the two parties obtain what they are entitled to without any corruption behind the scenes,” and pointed out that there are “some beneficiaries of government contracts in the private sector, which leads to the loss of the state and factories and the benefit of the corrupt.”
Omar stressed that “the partnership between the two sectors (public and private) needs a strict law because there must be planning, follow-up and accounts, as many employees receive a salary without any production.” .
For her part, stressed the economic expert d. Ikram Abdel Aziz, a member of the administrative board of the “Iraqi Economic Association,” stressed the need for several conditions to be met in the target partner.
Abdel Aziz told Al-Sabah: “Participation contracts with the private sector have a great impact on the development and revitalization of the Iraqi economy.”
And she continued, "The private sector is a partner and partner in economic decision-making and expanding its participation," and stressed that "this issue is one of the important issues because the private sector can be a real partner with its experience, consultations, and modern technology for the success of the production process."
And she indicated that “this is what is in place in development, and it applies to all economic joints, because the required private sector is the one that leaves a clear imprint, and possesses sufficient qualifications to assume the responsibility of participating in the public sector.”
