    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Monday, a member of the House of Representatives, Mudar Al-Karawi, indicated that there are five challenges facing the electricity file in Iraq, the most prominent of which is a strategic mistake 16 years ago.
Al-Karawi told "Baghdad Today": "The current electricity crisis is only a result of the accumulation of continuous errors after 2003 due to poor planning. He stressed that the energy file faces 5 challenges directly, most notably the total dependence on imported gas in operating a large part of the stations despite the existence of Iraqi gas fields with huge reserves.
He added, "The financial cost of importing gas and electricity for a year is sufficient to invest in the Mansouriya fields, which are the largest in the country in terms of reserves and are capable of operating its stations for at least 20 years, which reveals strategic mistakes in managing this file."
He pointed out that "Iraq made a big mistake by relying on importing gas 16 years ago without conducting any review that pushes towards accelerating the pace of investment of its gas from oil or gas fields despite the abundance of money in several years," pointing out that "Diyala is the most It was affected at the level of Iraq in the energy file, as it relies by approximately 70% on electricity imported from Iran.
He continued, "The current crisis gives confirmation of what we warned about years ago about the danger of relying on the importer and the importance of providing all the necessary funds to invest gas in the fields to maintain the operation of the stations."
