The Ministry of Health is preparing to conclude contracts with service providers in government and private institutions, in an effort to launch work on the health insurance project before the end of this year.
The official spokesman for the Health Insurance Authority, Dr. Ehab Abdel-Karim Khalaf, told Al-Sabah: The ministry will contract, during the next few days, with service providers from the private and public sectors in Baghdad within the health insurance project, as the submission is still ongoing by them until now, and they will be classified into categories.
He referred to the selection of 10 private wards in government hospitals, including Ibn Al-Bitar, Al-Alawiya for childbirth, Al-Alawi children, the private nursing home, and others, as they were rehabilitated and developed to be ready to receive guaranteed patients, as well as providing services in private wards in private hospitals and consulting clinics in government hospitals, private clinics, pharmacies and laboratories in order to allow competition and participation with the government sector.
Khalaf explained that the companies working to manage the system electronically in general have been contracted, and the electronic link with the data center in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers is nearing completion in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications, and we will be ready to provide health services to those covered in the first phase before the end of this year, as their numbers have so far reached 200,000 citizens out of a total of 300,000 citizens exclusively from Baghdad.
And he indicated that electronic cards will be prepared for those covered, due to the necessity of showing them when the citizen visits the service providers for the purpose of showing data, diagnosing the disease without using a paper prescription, and reviewing the pharmacy to dispense the treatment electronically, and thus this procedure will achieve transparency and speed.

Khalaf added that there are a number of standards adopted by the authority for service providers and their type, including the specialty of the doctor, the treatment protocols he provides, the drugs used and the method of treatment, as they contribute to reforming the system and developing the health system in the country, and alleviating the financial burdens borne by the citizen.
