    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (July 27, 2023), the federal government agreed to finance the salaries of employees of the Kurdistan Region for the month of June.
An official source told "Baghdad Today", "The Council of Ministers agreed to finance the salaries of employees of the Kurdistan region for the month of June."
Earlier in the day, the head of the Kurdistan government's delegation to Baghdad, Omid Sabah, announced that the two sides had reached an agreement regarding Kurdistan's financial dues, while pointing out that the two sides had signed a joint memorandum between them.
Sabah, who occupies the position of chief of the cabinet office in the Kurdistan government and head of the delegation of the Kurdistan government to Baghdad to discuss with Baghdad about the implementation of the budget law and financial dues for Kurdistan, said in a press statement followed by "Baghdad Today", that "the Kurdistan government has fulfilled all its obligations towards the federal government, and Baghdad must fund Kurdistan with its financial dues from the budget."
He added, "After several hours of meetings with the federal government, we concluded the meeting at 1:30 am by reaching an agreement and signing a joint memorandum between the two sides, and it was decided to fund Kurdistan immediately."
Sabah continued, "The delegation of Kurdistan, and by order of the President of the Kurdistan Government, Masrour Barzani, visited Baghdad several times, and this time we went to Baghdad after a phone call between the President of the Kurdistan Government, Masrour Barzani, and the head of the federal government, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, and the prime minister stressed the insistence of the Kurdistan government to implement the budget law and items related to the Kurdistan region."
The head of the Kurdistan government delegation indicated that "with the signing of this memorandum between the two sides, there is no obligation left on the shoulders of Kurdistan because it has implemented all obligations, and what remains is that the federal government spend the dues of the Kurdistan region and act in good faith."
Omid Sabah stressed, "The Kurdistan government has observations about several items of the budget and considers them unconstitutional. Nevertheless, Kurdistan has shown its willingness to implement the budget law and send Kurdistan's financial dues."
He pointed out, "The agreement signed between the Kurdistan government and the federal government includes all Kurdistan's financial dues from the budget, and it was agreed to finance Kurdistan as soon as possible," explaining, "The salaries of Kurdistan employees are a priority for the Kurdistan government."
