Shafaq News/ The efforts of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, to contain the dispute between Baghdad and Erbil, led to a meeting point with his efforts to bring viewpoints closer and try to create space between the different parties within the region.

The problems of Erbil and Baghdad are present in 60 statements
Since the beginning of 2023, the President of the Kurdistan Region has held dozens of meetings between various local and foreign political figures, and even military and religious figures, while the solution to the problems of Erbil and Baghdad was present in 60 statements from these meetings.
An inventory conducted by Shafaq News Agency showed that Nechirvan Barzani held a series of meetings in which he discussed internal Iraqi affairs and the importance of containing problems and resolving differences between Erbil and Baghdad, until this axis became the prominent feature of these meetings.
    Meeting point
In this context, the head of the Center for Political Thinking, Dr. Ihsan Al-Shammari, says, “The personality of the region’s president, Nechirvan Barzani, is characterized by moderation, centrism, and political rationality, and he contributes greatly to bringing viewpoints closer together, especially since Baghdad views him as a meeting point more than a point of intersection.” This in itself strengthens the personality and status of Nechirvan Barzani in Baghdad.”
Al-Shammari confirms to Shafaq News Agency, “The opinions presented by Nechirvan Barzani are characterized by their conformity with the constitution, and they also take into account the rights and the nature of the political components and the rights of these components. Therefore, the presence of Nechirvan Barzani is of great importance at the level of advancing the paths of dialogue between Baghdad and Erbil.”

For his part, the writer and political analyst, Ziad Al-Arar, says, “The president of the region is trying and striving, with all his personal relationships, capabilities, and influence, to try to arrange and improve the atmosphere between Baghdad and Erbil so that this relationship is balanced. He is trying to play the role of mediator so that all parties reach a meeting point.”
Al-Arar added to Shafaq News Agency, “Nechirvan Barzani plays a large and important role in the process of bringing viewpoints closer within the region as well, and not going to escalation between the Democratic Party and the Union, and he strives to find a meeting point between them by carrying out surprise measures and visits, as happened when he visited Sulaymaniyah and the regions.” Others in the Kurdistan Region.
He warned, "But the problem that must be addressed is that the differences are large in light of the presence of Iranian, Turkish, and even American interference and pressure. However, Nechirvan Barzani is trying to connect the parties to a meeting point."
This is what the independent politician, Saad Al-Muttalabi, also said, saying, “The Kurdistan leaders are good at political work and the process of movement and communication within the political blocs, but the problem is that this is a recurring issue and a chronic dilemma that has not left the country since the formation of the modern Iraqi government after the fall of the previous regime.”

Al-Muttalabi added to Shafaq News Agency, "The problem is the lack of adherence to the Iraqi constitution and considering the region a semi-independent state from Iraq. Therefore, there may be temporary solutions within political agreements, but the final solution can only be achieved through the Iraqi constitution."
The President of the Region made a visit to Baghdad, followed by a series of discussions with officials and diplomatic missions in Baghdad and Kurdistan, which finally led to the visit of a high-ranking delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government, headed by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, on Thursday, September 14, to the capital, Baghdad, with the aim of holding discussions with the government. In turn, Barzani said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “With the solid will of our people, we were able to defend the rights of the people of Kurdistan, and reach a fruitful agreement with Federal Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to secure citizens’ salaries.”
The issue of the Kurdistan Region’s oil and its non-oil revenues has been one of the thorny issues for several years that has not been resolved. In recent years, the federal government has adopted a new mechanism to disburse the region’s dues in the budget, represented by providing financial loans so that the Kurdistan Government can pay employees’ salaries, the disbursement of which is usually delayed.
