    The Iraqi Minister of Health, Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, announced today, Saturday (October 14, 2023), the imminent opening of medical cities in Basra and Maysan governorates, and medical centers in all governorates, while he spoke about the date of implementing health insurance.

    Al-Hasnawi said, in a joint press conference with the Governor of Najaf, Al-Ashraf Majid Al-Waeli, that “Al-Hurriya District Hospital was opened today, and it is among what was included in the government program regarding the health sector,” indicating that “the hospital has a capacity of 50 beds and is equipped with all services, medical devices and human cadres.” “It contributes to providing services to the district, and this is the first step in building a hospital in the district.”

    He added, "The government program does not depend on building hospitals in city centers. Rather, hospitals will be built in districts and districts, and we have a plan to renovate all hospitals and establish a 100-bed hospital in one of the governorate's districts."

    The minister continued, "The government program depends on completing all lagging hospitals and implementing the ministry's vision in primary and secondary health care."

    He pointed out "the opening of 3 centers in Najaf Al-Ashraf to support the health sector," adding: "We will also open medical cities in the governorates of Basra and Maysan, and medical centers will be opened in all governorates," explaining: "We have 16 hospitals with a capacity of 100 beds, which we will open within what is stipulated." The government program, and we will begin implementing health insurance on November 1.”

    Al-Hasnawi stressed, "We have no problem with cadres, but we have a problem with some few specialties, and we are also moving to strengthen hospitals with medical equipment."

    A statement from the Ministry said on Saturday: “Al-Hasnawi arrived in Najaf Al-Ashraf to follow up on the health situation and to open a number of new health projects,” noting that “the visit comes within the government program to communicate with the governorates and local administrations, follow up on the health situation in the governorate, and open a number of health projects.”
