Parliamentary education suggests abolishing paper books and using electronic ones

The Parliamentary Education Committee proposed canceling textbooks and replacing them with computers that include all curricula in a modern electronic format, and expected the possibility of implementing this during the next academic year 2024-2025 if the proposal is approved.
Committee member Najwa Kakai told Al-Sabah: The committee is studying a special proposal to cancel paper textbooks in schools and replace them with electronic copies through lightweight portable computers (laptops) that do not take up space or be damaged, as happens to paper books through their annual use.
She explained that the aim of the proposal and its implementation is to alleviate the burden of carrying books on a daily basis and their exposure to damage over time, in addition to stopping the costly printing process, in addition to developing the students’ abilities with computer skills in a way that is compatible with the requirements of modern study.
Kakai explained that the topic is still a proposal under study by members of the committee and specialists in educational affairs, and if it is approved, it is expected to be implemented during the next academic year 2024-2025, but this must be preceded by an awareness and education campaign using the electronic computer in a simplified manner that will benefit the student.
She noted that the provision of printed school books represents a crisis that is repeated annually because this is linked to the economic situation and the delay in the amounts allocated for printing, which places the Ministry in constant embarrassment before the start of the academic year, as it is possible that the devices will be supplied at the government’s expense and the student and his family will not intervene in providing this at all
