The Ministry of Education has prepared 80 percent of the newly printed curricula for schools, while confirming that the current academic year will be different from the previous one in terms of providing books, preparing schools, and settling staff.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Karim Al-Sayed, told Al-Sabah: The ministry has prepared the technical and logistical preparations for the start of the 2024-2025 academic year early, especially the new editions of books, in addition to school maintenance.
He added that all preparations were well-studied and started according to the educational calendar and did not witness any delay in coordination with the general directorates, and there are continuous field tours by the Minister of Education to closely follow up on the projects. He pointed out that the curricula are one of the most important paragraphs that the ministry has focused on during the current year in order to secure them for students and avoid repeating the delay in preparation as happened in previous years, as printing procedures began early this year, and 80 percent of the newly printed curricula were delivered to schools in record time with the preparation process continuing. Al-Sayed continued that there are hundreds of schools that have been put into service in Baghdad and the governorates, while others are still under construction.
In turn, the Director of Educational Media in Najaf, Dr. Hussein Al-Shawki, told Al-Sabah: The process of settling the staff began at the beginning of September, and will be completed on the nineteenth of this month, i.e. before the start of the school year. He explained that the specialized supervision formed four committees, each of which includes more than 10 supervisors, to settle the staff and address the surplus and vacancies between schools. Al-Shawki explained that the Ministry of Education is working this year to overcome the problem of vacancies, most notably physics, chemistry and mathematics, and to cover them by more than 90 percent with the start of the school year, noting that two thousand contracts were appointed with a salary of 300 thousand dinars during the summer vacation, and there are efforts to appoint the six thousand contracts that were submitted by the governorate to the Ministry of Education. Regarding the reason for the delay in appointing these contracts, Al-Shawki answered that the number of applicants was large, and there were more than 32 thousand applicants, and the Ministry of Education, through its committees, sorted them to reach only six thousand, which is the specified number.
