Today, Monday (November 13, 2023), Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani affirmed the government’s commitment to protecting diplomatic missions and advisors present in Iraqi bases.
A statement from his office received by “Baghdad Today” stated that Al-Sudani received “a phone call from Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, in which the developments of events in the Gaza Strip were discussed.”
The Prime Minister indicated, during the call, that “what is happening in Gaza are crimes against humanity, genocide, and a clear violation of all agreements and laws that have begun to lose their value in the face of the tragic numbers of victims, the majority of whom are defenseless civilians and half of whom are children, in addition to The forced displacement carried out by the Zionist occupation authorities.”
He stressed that "the international community and the great powers are today faced with a moral and legal responsibility to stop the war and open humanitarian corridors in order to deliver water, food and medicine to besieged civilians," noting that "Iraq is making great efforts to prevent the conflict from expanding, in addition to the commitment to protect... Diplomatic missions and advisors present in Iraqi bases.”
For his part, Rutte expressed his condemnation of the killing of Palestinian civilians, stressing the necessity of opening humanitarian corridors in order for the basic materials needed by the people in Gaza to arrive. He appreciated Iraq’s efforts to maintain stability, and also expressed his aspiration to work with the Iraqi government in order to achieve stability and peace in the region. And the world,” pointing out “his country’s position is identical with Iraq, regarding the war in Gaza.”
