Maysan farmers demand that they be equipped with irrigation systems

The peasants and farmers of Maysan complained of the difficulty of obtaining subsidized regulated irrigation systems, demanding that the Ministry of Agriculture quickly equip them with them so that they can grow wheat and barley within the current winter season.
A group of them said in interviews they gave to “Al-Sabah” that they are facing difficulties in obtaining regulated irrigation systems with floating prices, calling on the Ministry of Agriculture to expedite the need to equip them with them so that they can participate in the winter season by planting strategic wheat and barley crops, stressing that they are currently buying them from the market. Local prices are at high prices, which prevents many of them from purchasing them.
The Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed that the inclusion of farmers and peasants in the current winter plan irrigated with wells will be conditional on the use of sprinkler and drip irrigation systems for farmers, provided that agricultural contracts are valid, and the wells must be licensed by the General Authority for Ground Water in the Ministry of Water Resources.
For his part, the head of the Building Agriculture Division, Ali Fadel, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The early distribution of agricultural supplies contributes to increasing farmers’ benefit from them and leads to increased production and providing the best for the agricultural reality, indicating that the preparation was done at a rate of 50 kg of wheat seeds per dunum for the fields in which It is irrigated from the Tigris River, confirming an approach to the Ministry of Agriculture to prepare the rest of
the areas.
In the same context, the Director of the Ali Al-Gharbi Agriculture Division, Haider Jassim, explained in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: His department continues early field inspection of farmers who hold agricultural contracts in the Ali Al-Gharbi Island region who want to work this season in growing the wheat crop for the current winter season on irrigation systems.
