Parliamentary Committee: Efforts to legislate the communications and maritime authority laws

The Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee intends to follow up on the draft Law on Communications and Information Technology and the Maritime Authority with the aim of legislating and approving them.
Committee member Karwan Ali Yaruwis told Al-Sabah: The committee is following up on the two draft laws to transfer them to the second legislative term, in order to seek to legislate and approve it, because this law carries the utmost importance in the field of communications and information.
He stressed that the draft law on communications and informatics comes to establish the tasks and duties of each of the Ministry of Communications and the Communications and Information Authority and differentiate between their duties separately, in addition to drawing up a real work policy for the competent authorities in the communications sector for development and improvement in a way that guarantees good services for citizens, as there are intensive efforts in coordination with Secretariat of the Council of Ministers for approval and implementation. In a related context, Yarois revealed the formation of joint committees with the relevant parliamentary bodies and committees, to discuss the proposed Maritime Law, as the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee called for amending the Maritime Law and transforming the Maritime Authority into an authority, stressing that the committee monitors companies working with the Civil Aviation and Transport Authority by adopting a program. The Communications and Informatics Law, once legislated and approved, will determine the competent authorities in the process of allocating and regulating frequencies, granting licenses and permits, and protecting national wealth in the communications sector, to encourage investment and guarantee the rights of beneficiaries to keep pace with technological development and support economic development in the field of communications and informatics.
