The Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee seeks to legislate the (Communications and Informatics) Law, to be the legal cover for the Ministry of Transport and the Communications and Media Authority, and contribute to regulating the frequency spectrum and infrastructure for both.
Committee member, Zuhair Al-Fatlawi, said in an interview with the official newspaper, followed by Mawazine News, that “there is a set of laws proposed in the corridors of the Transport and Communications Committee, which are each of the (Communications and Informatics) Law, the Ministry of Communications, and the Communications and Media Authority Law, and the task of these laws is to regulate The communications sector in Iraq.”
He added, “The communications sector operates without laws, and the Ministry of Communications was in the time of the previous regime the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and they were separated. Transport became a ministry, and communications turned into the Media and Communications Authority, and it is still operating under Bremer’s law,” indicating that “The (Communications and Informatics) Law is the cover for them and regulates the frequency spectrum and infrastructure for both.”
Al-Fatlawi pointed out that “there is an overlap in the work of the Commission and the Ministry, which has produced bad companies with high prices that operate at their own discretion without law, monitoring, or accounting.”
