    The Minister of Economy and Finance in the Kurdistan Region, Awat Sheikh Janab, announced today, Friday (February 2, 2024), that there is good faith on the part of the federal government to resolve the issue of delayed salaries for the region’s employees and a consensus on the need to address this file, while he pointed to the conviction of Baghdad and Erbil of the necessity Amending the budget law, he stressed that there are “positive steps on the horizon.”
    Sheikh Janab said in a statement published by the ministry, “The budget law created problems for us and for Baghdad as well, and both parties have now reached a conviction of the necessity of amending the law.”
    He added, "Under the pretext of actual spending, Baghdad violated the salaries of our employees, and the law also caused problems for them," noting: "We are awaiting the election of a new president for the Iraqi Council of Representatives in order to begin procedures for amending the budget law." 
    He explained: "We can say that there is good faith on the part of Baghdad to resolve the issue of delayed salaries for the region's employees and a consensus on the need to address this issue and keep it away from political conflicts." 
    Regarding the promotion and upgrading of employees, the minister stated that “we provided all information and data related to the promotion of employees to Baghdad, because the employees of the region should be treated fairly and in the same manner as their peers in the rest of Iraq,” indicating: “There are positive steps on the horizon, but because of the siege Imposed on the region since 2012, it takes time to remove the obstacles that have existed throughout this period.” 
    Awat Sheikh Janab reassured the employees that "the region does not have any problem with payrolls, trial balances and bank accounts, and that all these data are submitted to Baghdad every month on the specified dates."
    Yesterday, Thursday, the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Region announced the arrival of the amount of 618 billion dinars sent by the federal government, indicating the start of distributing salaries starting tomorrow, Friday.
    The ministry said in a statement: “The amount of 618 billion dinars was transferred to the bank account of the Ministry of Finance and Economy at the Central Bank of Iraq/Erbil branch.”
    She explained that this amount constitutes only 65% ​​of the total entitlements of Kurdistan Region employees.
    The statement went on to say: “After the amount reaches the General Directorates of Commercial Banks in the Ministry of Finance, and with the addition of 325 billion dinars to it from local revenues in order to fill the deficit in the amount, on Friday, the second of February 2024, the salaries of the region’s employees will begin to be distributed.”
