    Baghdad Today - Translation
The New Arab Network revealed, in a report published today, Wednesday (May 1, 2024), the intention of the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, to announce the postponement of the general elections again until the expiry of the Federal Supreme Court deadline.
The network said, according to what “Baghdad Today” translated, that a source within the Kurdistan government confirmed to it Barzani’s intention to announce the postponement of the elections, which were scheduled to be held on January 10, for an additional three months, through an official statement that his government will issue next week.
She continued, "A source close to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the rival to the Democratic Party, confirmed to us that Barzani intends to postpone the elections until the Federal Supreme Court's deadline expires," stressing that "most likely there will not be any elections after the court's deadline expires."
The source also confirmed to the network that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, if the postponement of the elections is announced again, will decide “to withdraw from the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, and thus the region will be officially divided into two administrative regions,” according to his description.
It is noteworthy that the general elections in the region were postponed two years ago as a result of political differences between the two main parties, in addition to the presence of pending judicial issues related to the electoral process within Iraqi Kurdistan.
