    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Sunday (February 4, 2024), a member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Muhammad Anouz, revealed that there are more than 120 draft laws postponed from several parliamentary sessions.
Anouz told "Baghdad Today", "There are more than 120 laws postponed from several parliamentary sessions that have not been resolved due to the lack of consensus between the three parties," referring to the Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish lists that represent the hierarchy of the Council's presidency and through which laws are presented in the sessions.
He added, "The laws, most notably the Federal Court, oil and gas, domestic violence, and property disputes, up to the general amnesty that was proposed in 2022 and then returned to the government that defined the terrorist crime clause, and it is still in place without any action on it, in addition to other important laws."
Anouz continued, "In Iraq, we have sensitive security services that operate without laws, and this is something that may surprise some people, but it is a fact," pointing out that "enacting laws is part of building the state, and this is what we must strive for, away from the debates and disputes that delayed their approval for 15 years."
Parliamentary statistics published by the Media Department of the House of Representatives on the 28th of last month revealed that the House voted on only 32 laws during the current fifth parliamentary session, two years of which have passed and the third legislative year/first legislative term.
It is noteworthy that the parliamentary session of the Iraqi Council of Representatives lasts 4 legislative calendar years.
