Shafaq News/ On Saturday, the Minister of Electricity, Ali Fadel, considered supplying power production stations with enough fuel to meet their need for fuel “the biggest challenge” facing the ministry, expressing his optimism that next summer will be “better” than the previous one in increasing processing hours for subscribers.
This came during his hosting of a dialogue session on the sidelines of the conference (launching the electronic payment service for electricity bills in Baghdad Governorate).

The minister said in the session attended by Shafaq News Agency correspondent, that the ministry has drawn up a plan for next summer, which has been submitted to the federal government, indicating that the plan talks about a higher rate of energy production than last summer, and it contains a group of projects and proposals regarding the obligations imposed on the ministries of electricity, oil, and finance. And planning in this regard.
He added that the plan drawn up by the Ministry includes maintenance operations, new projects, resolving bottlenecks in the networks, developing those networks, the distribution mechanism, and rationalizing consumption.
The minister continued by saying, “With regard to fuel, this is the biggest challenge facing the ministry. We hope that this summer will be “better” than last summer in that there will be no interruption in the supply of prepared fuel to the stations, which at that time we lost 5,000 megawatts,” stressing that “next summer will be better.” From last summer."
Iraq has been suffering from a chronic electricity shortage for decades as a result of the siege and successive wars. Residents have been protesting for many years against the frequent power outages, especially in the summer, when temperatures sometimes reach 50 degrees Celsius.
Iraq is holding discussions with Gulf countries, led by Saudi Arabia, to import electricity from them by linking its organization with the Gulf system, after it had relied on Iran alone during the past years by importing 1,200 megawatts as well as gas fuel to feed local electric power stations.
Iraq also intends to import electricity from Jordan and Turkey, in an effort by Baghdad to fill the shortage until power stations are built that are able to meet local consumption.
