    The Iraqi Ministry of Health believes that importing Corona vaccines has become “useless,” especially with the relative absence of infections, as well as the lack of Iraqis’ interest in the vaccine even in the dangerous days of Corona, and while it indicates that eliminating any epidemic requires vaccination of more than 75%.     Assistant Director of the Immunization Department, Kamal Abdel Razzaq, said, “The (Corona) vaccine is not available at the present time due to the instructions to ease measures against the mutant approved by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers,” noting that “The Coronavirus with all its variants has become less of a health risk and is in the last ranks after... Measles and influenza are considered the most dangerous,” according to the government newspaper Al-Sabah. 



    He pointed out that “there is no economic benefit to bringing a vaccine for the disease even if it has variants and benefits immunity,” indicating that “in the difficult periods that the world and Iraq experienced in light of the spread of Corona, there are citizens who did not visit health centers to take the vaccine, while the plan is to eliminate A certain epidemic requires coverage of 75-80 percent of the community.”

    Abdul Razzaq explained, "The Ministry may come with meals for those wishing to be vaccinated against (Covid) and its variants, or for risk groups among pilgrims, or those wishing to visit other places that require them to have a special vaccine against the virus."

    While health talks about the need for any society to be vaccinated at a rate of 75 to 80% to eliminate a specific epidemic, Al-Sumaria News conducted a review of the number and percentage of those vaccinated in Iraq against Corona.

    The latest updated data from the World Health Organization in December 2023 shows that 11.3 million people in Iraq have received the Corona vaccination, that is, only 28% of the population, at a time when eliminating any epidemic requires the vaccination rate to be 80%. This means that Iraq needs... To vaccinate twice the number of citizens who were given the Corona vaccine, meaning to raise them from 11.3 million citizens to more than 33 million citizens, that is, by 200%.

    This percentage has already been achieved by Saudi Arabia and Iran in the countries surrounding Iraq, while Iraq ranks 181 out of 202 countries in the global Corona vaccination rate.
