    [size=45]On Friday, Minister of Labor Ahmed Al-Asadi directed the formation of a committee with the Ministry of Interior regarding addressing and eliminating begging, as well as with the Ministry of Justice regarding activating the provisions of the Inmates and Deposits Reform Law.[/size]
    [size=45]The ministry stated in a statement:[/size]
    [size=45]Mr. Minister of Labor Ahmed Al-Asadi said during his chairmanship of a meeting of the Labor Council in the presence of members from representatives of ministries, general directors and heads of bodies in the ministry on Thursday, February 15, 2024, that the expiration of sentences for depositors and inmates in correctional homes is a real problem facing the ministry, as well as for orphans who have reached the legal age. In shelters, the Council recommended forming a committee between the Ministries of Labor and Justice to address this issue and the possibility of establishing a shelter center for subsequent care.[/size]
    [size=45]During the meeting, the possibility of opening a disbursement door in all ministries to advance the reality of occupational health and safety was discussed during the meeting, after approaching the Ministry of Finance. The Labor Council decided to submit a recommendation to the Council of Ministers regarding an emphasis on ministries and entities not affiliated with a ministry to approach the Ministry of Finance regarding allocating disbursement doors to support occupational health and safety requirements. .[/size]
    [size=45]Regarding the child protection paragraph in Iraq, the Minister explained that childhood is one of the main topics that is a priority for the Ministry of Labor, given that the Child Welfare Authority, which he heads, is responsible for following up on all childhood issues in the country, pointing out that the Authority worked in coordination with UNICEF to launch a strategy National Council for Early Childhood Development, which seeks to legislate a new child protection law in cooperation with the House of Representatives.[/size]
    [size=45]Regarding the phenomenon of widespread begging, Mr. Al-Assadi stressed that this phenomenon is dangerous and offensive and has affected people and is spreading in regions and areas where wars and conflicts occur. He pointed to the formation of a committee with the Ministry of Interior to address and eliminate begging, as the movement towards it has contributed to treating a large portion of begging. The spread of this phenomenon, while stressing the importance of there being a real follow-up to the recommendations that would reduce this begging.[/size]
